How to fix shelves in a store or pantry

Most pantries or stores in houses have minimal shelving as provided for by a developer. When a house owner stocks the room its realized that shelving is not adequate. There are different materials used for this which include but not limited to aluminum frames, wall brackets and timber or even masonry and block blocks. When designing for additional shelves, note the kind of materials to use, the kind of items to be carried and the fixing method. The method of fixing should be quick and easy without involving demolitions or alteration of the room.


When fixing shelves in a store, identify the type to use. When using steel wall brackets, mark the space and location of each bracket on the wall. Space them at least one and a half feet wide and in height respectively. Use a drill to bore holes into the wall. Care should be taken not to puncture electrical conduits. Fix the brackets with long screws. Assemble the boards and cut them at least one and a half feet wide. Length depends on area.


The brackets used in a store or pantry should be at least one feet long to give ample support to boards and hanging on the wall. Once in place take the boards and lay them onto the brackets and screw from underneath to hold firmly. The thickness should not be less than one inch. Add a biding on the edge and smoothen with sand paper. Use gloss paint to decorate the brackets and timber boards. Use long screws on the wall at least more than one inch.


During fixing of shelves in the store leave enough space for movement in and out of the pantry. Keep the heights of shelves at least one and a half feet from the ceiling. This allows storage of items on the last shelve. From the floor keep at least two feet from the ground. This will allow for bulky items to be kept below the shelving.
