Byron Bay is Australia's hippy, surf town. Friendly takes on a whole new meaning here as people will strike up a conversation with a total stranger on the street and invite them for a beer. The surf is awesome, both for beginners and seasoned pros. Many people get stuck in this little slice of heaven so allow plenty of time to just soak up the atmosphere and the most amazing sunrises from Cape Byron lighthouse.
Queensland is where will find lush, tropical rainforest mixed with beautiful sandy beaches. The best place to admire this natural beauty is Cape Tribulation. You can stay in huts right in the midst of the rainforest. Just beware of the giant spiders, ants and general abundance of creepy crawlies.
If you like nature, and getting stuck into the outback, then a visit to the Atherton Tablelands should be on the cards. This part of inland Northern Queensland is like a fairy tale with waterfalls, springs, and streams strewn between the trees. Hire bikes, or just use your feet to explore this ancient World Heritage rainforest.
