One of the biggest misconceptions of business plan writing is the very nature of the business plan. Oftentimes, customers look at what they are getting as a product, instead of a service. This is a huge misconception, because research, data and writing is a very service-based activity. Customers tend to look at business plan writing like it"s fast food: delivered fast, on demand and if they don"t like it, they can get their money back. Plans are painstaking work. They require many hours, if not several days of time and effort.
Plan writing is a specialized type of work, and not everybody can simply crank out a business plan. Each plan writer is highly skilled and trained in writing. Many plan writers have English degrees, or degrees related to writing. First the writer must evaluate the type of business the person is doing. Then they must gather research specific to that market. Next, the writer must craft the plan to be as well-written as possible, in order to convince bank lenders that they should invest in this plan. The plan is written to draw investors in, to catch their eye. Therefore, it is important for the customer to realize that they are not simply getting a few pieces of paper; they are getting the plan writer"s best creative efforts and resources.
