Some of the most common statements made by singing aspirants who lack in confidence are: I don’t have a naturally good voice, so I cannot learn to sing. I don’t think I will ever have a perfect pitch. Will I be able to hold long notes? Will I ever get vibrato? Let me assure you that most definitely you can learn to sing.

Everyone seems to think that learning to play an instrument like the guitar or the piano can be mastered by all, but to sing you need a good voice. This is a total misconception. Your vocal chords are just like an instrument, so if you can learn to play one, you can learn to sing too. The fact that some people are able to pick up faster than others just shows their immense motivation and determination.

Unless a person is either physically or mentally not well, anyone other than a tone deaf person can sing. So, now maybe you will claim that you are tone deaf. No, you cannot be. Being tone deaf is a very rare situation and such people cannot understand what a pitch means nor can they differentiate between a “B” or a “C” or “D” note. So, if you were tone deaf you wouldn’t be reading this article in the first place.

Do not be under the impression that you cannot master a pitch. That is a myth too. Any singer can develop his/her voice with breathing exercises, voice modulation, and breathe control and learn to have a perfect pitch. It is just a question of practice. The way to master a pitch is to hold a single note in that pitch for as long as you can. The longer and harder you practice the faster you will be able to master the skills of having a perfect pitch, holding your notes and singing in a clear and full voice.
