Window Watching

It's a beautiful day after the rain today, and I wanted to open our windows to let some fresh air into our house, only to forget that our dog barks at every tiny little noise that comes in through those windows! Therefore, we rarely ever open a window unless we have a really good reason to such as bleach or smoke, etc. She really is quite a watch dog. After all, she is a Dobie-Chow mix!

Growing up, we used to sleep with our windows wide open. We lived in a rural area in Missouri off of the interstate and up a hill, but you're still not safe. My mother's friend up the street did also, and she once told us to be careful because she woke up one night to the smell of cigarettes! No one in her house smokes, and the next nearest house to her was nearly a mile away as they had a nice little farm on a few acres of land. I remember that they grew their own tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkins, you name it (they used to win pumpkin contests), they also had chickens and turkeys! I recall collecting eggs a couple times and petting their turkeys. They would all run up to us along the fence when we were walking up the road to visit them!

I used to lay there in my bed as a child just listening to the loud crickets, and sweat thinking about what would happen if somebody tried to get in my window! I guess that was never a concern for my parents. I always went to bed in fear as a kid. I only remember my dad telling me to never sit in front of a window when the curtains were opened because there could be somebody watching or there could be a murderer out there sniping you out. That is true also, as you don't want anybody watching your every little move, who knows what kind of person might be watching you. It's wise to take precaution. It's very foolish to think you are absolutely safe. Also never leave your garage door open! That is an open invitation. There is an attacker on the loose here now in my area, check out the article here.

Nowadays, you can have an intrusion alarm system installed in your home with window contacts. For those of you who are do it yourselfers, you can also now purchase the kit and install it yourself! Make sure you and your loved ones are protected today. They also make great mother's day gifts!

Yours In Safety,

Regina Jacques
