Get Great Lengths Hair LLC

Business: Get Great Lengths Hair LLC, a Winchester-based business, provides 100 percent natural hair extensions with Great Lengths brand hair and application technology. My most asked for services include adding volume, putting in light colored extensions for highlights, and most often adding length to the current hairstyle.

Owner: Christina Parent, 29, a Winchester resident.

Education and related work experience: I have been a hair stylist for over 10 years and graduated top of my class at the Virginia School of Hair design. I also attended Graham Webb in Arlington. In 2001, I became a color educator and instructor for Tressa, a large manufacturer of color and products for professional stylists.

I was fortunate enough to further my education and abilities by attending training in Las Vegas with Great Lengths, to now be able to execute "Great Lengths" hair extensions. I am certified through Great Lengths and can also certify other salons in the area if they meet the qualifications set by Great Lengths.

When did you start the business?: June 2008

Why did you decide go into the business of selling hair extensions?

The reason why it appealed to me as a hair stylist is that most often clients think of getting a haircut, as losing or taking off hair. With that in mind, most of our designs are based off of those concepts. Yet with hair extensions, we can add a three dimensional element to the basics of hair styling. Your imagination is endless, and with hair extensions, you can truly create exactly what you want, and achieve the results that the client desires.

Can you describe how you add hair extensions to someone's hairstyle?

Great Lengths uses 100 percent keratin to create the bond, which is exactly the same keratin structure that is already found in your own natural hair. With fusion (hot and cold) technology we can then apply the bond into your own hair, which allows your hair to breathe, causing no damage to your existing hair structure.

In addition, with Great Lengths, the bonds are fused on strand-by-strand, which makes the addition flawless and unnoticeable to the eye.

Why do people opt to get hair extensions?

The reason why people consider hair extensions as a great option is because it enables them to have the hair they wanted instantly. We can add hair to length, add volume to fine hair, and also highlight hair with no harsh chemicals in a matter of hours. In addition, making possible hair styles that otherwise were impossible with the client's current makeup and hair structure.

How much do they cost?

The price of Great Lengths hair extensions varies from client to client depending on their needs. We can structure a hair design that meets the needs and budget of every customer. The price can range from a partial highlight running approximately $300 to a full head of hair, length, and volume as high as $3,000. Again, each client can achieve exactly what they are seeking in a hairstyle, and I always work with my clients to obtain that look for the best price.

How long do they last?

Great Lengths hair extensions can typically last as long as six to eight months, depending on maintenance and care, sometimes longer.

How do you find your customers?

We currently have a heavy advertising presence on the web through our Web site www.GetGreatLengthshair.com and we attract lots of customers as far away as North Carolina, and some even further that come to Winchester just to get hair extensions.

In addition, most importantly, my clients are the best way I have found to help bring in new customers. We also have partnered with local salons in the area to tap into their current client base that were in need of hair extensions. We are currently partnered with Element Salon & Day Spa, and Gossip Salon, both located in Winchester.

What kind of training does a beautician need to learn how to add extensions to someone's hair?

There is a lot of training that is required to be skilled in the field of hair extensions. But most importantly, I believe it takes a qualified and well-trained hairstylist to know exactly how to visualize how the clients' hair will react and interact with their current hair and hairstyle.

There are lots of stylists that can struggle with the trade of hair extensions, simply because they still haven't mastered hair cutting, coloring, or design. It will take a combination of all these trades to be able to do a client justice when attempting to design the hairstyle you want to create, while also being able to cut the hair correctly when finished adding the extensions.

What kind of a demand is there in this area for your products and services?

As far as demand goes, there were over 1,041 people last month within 25 miles of Winchester that went online and typed into Google, MSN, Yahoo and other search engines looking for some sort of hair extension service.

Over 500 of those searchers were looking for Great Lengths hair extensions. That's just right here in the Shenandoah Valley. The demand is there, and we are poised to capture those customers. Online and offline.

What will the growth of your company look like five years from now?

Within one year, I hope to have over 10 salons signed up in my salon network offering Great Lengths hair extensions within the Shenandoah Valley. I hope to have several trained stylists working within my salon network, performing hair extensions at the highest caliber and quality that is expected from Great Lengths.

Furthermore, within five years, the vision includes having a "specialized" Great Lengths hair salon, with the focus on attracting extension-minded clients.
