Sunflower seeds are quite possibly the most wonderful thing in the world. They are incredibly healty, very convenient, and just a plain joy to eat. Why am I bringing up sunflower seeds? Because they don't get the credit they deserve.

I eat sunflower seeds every single day. They are very nutritious, but that isn't why i eat them. Of course, one of the main reasons I eat them is because I enjoy the taste, but what I really love about them is how you can just keep eating them again and again and not get full.

My love of sunflower seeds began when I was a teenager. my mother wouldn't allow me to snakc whenever I wanted because, as the cliche goes, it'll spoil your appetite. We finally came up with the compromise of eating sunflower seeds. I could sit and eat them for hours and they barely made a difference in my stomach. For me, eating is one of the great joys in life and I am grateful to have something like sunflower seeds that allow me to enjoy this pleasure for longer periods of time.

Now I don't just sit and stare at the seeds and eat them, they are the perfect compliment to any activity that doesn't require both hands. They help keep me focused (ever seen the baseball players with big wads in their mouths?) and they instantly boost the serotonin levels in your body.

Just in case you want to know more details about why they are so healthy, just look at the nutritional content. They are packed with protein, dietary fiber, mono and poly-unsaturated fats (the good fats), Vitamin E, Vitamin Bs, calcium, potassium, iron, selenium, zinc and magnesium. In addition, there is strong evidence that sunflower seeds help alleviate depression (raising the levels of serotonin in the body - the same thing anti-depressants do) and reduce the risk of heart disease. If I could only choose one food to eat the rest of my life (I sincerely hope I never have to make this decision), of course, I would choose sunflower seeds. Of course i'd have to fight off the birds (if you've ever had a bird feeder, you know the birds go for the sunflower seeds first, they know where to get nutrition).

By the way, I give sunflower seeds credit for helping me to stop smoking!
