Updation of data stored in the Access database is the common task performed by most of the database users. While updating the database keeps you upgraded with all the changes performed in the database, it might result to corruption of Access database if two or more users perform updation on a particular database component. In such situations, the data stored in that particular database component becomes inaccessible. To overcome such data loss situations, you need to restore data from an updated backup. But, if you have not created any backup or backup falls short to restore the required data, then you need to use advanced Access Repair application.

Consider a practical case, where you encounter the below error message when you attempt to run an update query on the Employee table:

"-2147217887 : The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and
another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time"

Data stored in the Employee table becomes inaccessible after the above error message appears. In addition, you encounter the same error message each time you try to open the Employee table.

Cause:

As stated in the above error message, the table has been corrupted because you and some other user were trying to change the same data at the same time.
Note: The above error message primarily occurs in a multi-user environment.
Resolution:

To determine the above error message and access data stored in the Employee table, you need to use the inbuilt repair utility named "Compact and Repair." To do so, you need to follow the below steps:

1. Go to the Tools menu, select Database Utilities and then click Compact and Repair Database.
2. Locate and then click the database in the ‘Database to Compact From' dialog box, and then click Compact.
3. Select an appropriate folder location for the new file in the ‘Compact Database Into' dialog box, type a unique name for the file and then click on Save.

If the inbuilt utility fails to resolve the issue and data in the Employee table remains inaccessible, then you need to opt for advanced access repair utility. These Access Database Repair utilities employ powerful scanning mechanisms to systematically scan and repair your corrupted database components. Built with highly graphical and interactive user interface, these utilities are easy to understand without any former technical knowledge.
