Caimbo Artist Review

Ever hear a song that infuriates you? A track that actually makes you angry when you hear it? Caimbo's song "The Bomb" did just that on first listening.
The Cambridge based four-piece have recorded tracks with Ben Mason ( who has recorded with the likes of Artic Monkeys and The Kooks) and are awaiting the release
of their debut album ‘Electric Dreams' in the summer of this year. So with such invaluable recording experience and a bright future, what makes listening to ‘The Bomb' so unpleasant?
In truth I am over exaggerating. Alright, so ‘The Bomb' is a bit of a cliché song title, and the guys in the band do look a little like the rejuvenated Hansen of late, but this isn't what has made me disappointed with the song. The band clearly have bags of talent, they can construct a song well and they are instrumentally sound. It is what they are trying to achieve that somewhat lets their sound down, they are too conscious of the electro fashion and amplify it to the max. This is all well and good if the electro Indy scene wasn't becoming tiresome, which it arguably is, but it is the ‘The Bomb' that sums up the band really.
It begins with a brilliant riff, dirty and raw, and it quickly escalates into a load of random bleeps and electro nonsense. The chorus contains some admirable harmonies, yet they seem to not match the rest of the song. Vocally, the song is pretty average, but the I still haven't got round to what has bugged me so much about ‘The Bomb'. The problem with this band is that they are clearly talented and they have so much potential, far more than many of the bands trying to break through at the moment. They have gone into a genre which I believe is dying a slow death, and they would probably benefit from going along the more alternative route.
I respect the choices of bands, their style, their genre of music, and I wish Caimbo well. I would just love to see them in a more alternative, raw, unpretentious light, with more freedom from the fairly restricted, yet neither here nor there genre of ‘disco house'. I guess I am being too negative, but I do like the band for the sheer potential they have. They will probably be a huge success and storm the mainstream scene, but at the moment it's a market of safe music, a place where Caimbo shouldn't be.
If they go along with their electro scene then all the best to them, either way this band could be the next big thing.
