In Indian culture, Gold is given preference over the silver when it comes to jewellery. Gold being an expensive metal always, its use is limited to upper elite classes and royals only. Silver is relatively cheaper than gold and is available to common people. Silver jewellery has its own charm and beauty. In earlier times, silver was used t in various ornaments like “kamar Bandh” which is a belt made of silver. “Haath Bandh”, this is an armlet worn around arms, silver bracelets, silver bangles, silver anklets and much more. Most of these items are still worn by women as part of customs in rural India. Besides silver jewellery, there are many items which are made of silver like silver utensils, silver decorative and idols of God and Goddesses. Most poplar piece of silver jewellery is anklet. Anklet is worn by most of the women and girls. Also, wearing silver anklet is the part of customs for married women in India.

However, in urban India, silver jewellery is worn to make a fashion statement rather than to follow customs. With prices ever on increase, gold is getting out of reach of even middle class people. At the same time, people are suffering from economic crisis looming world over. However, despite all these conditions, fashion can not be ignored. Instead of gold, women are getting attracted to cheaper silver jewellery. Jewellery designers are coming with new range of silver jewellery every now and then. Add to this, there is craze for white metal like white gold and platinum in West which make silver more attractive. There are many Jewellery shops which are dedicated to only silver items.

There is wide range of silver ornaments; you can choose from designer jewellery to handcrafted traditional jewellery to branded one. Silver is getting hot favorite among the common people because of its wide range of designs, affordability and durability. There is no dearth of designs in silver ornaments. You can find silver necklaces, both for men and women, silver bracelets, silver earrings, silver pendants, silver rings and stone studded silver ornament. Most of the jewellery shops sell all these items.

Silver jewellery can be worn daily or at any occasion. Silver has its own unique white shine which can not be matched by any other metal. Now days, people are admiring its oxidized look also. But, if you really like gold jewellery but cannot afford it, you can go for silver jewellery with gold polish. Silver jewellery is a boon for people who are fashion conscious but have limited budget.
