Coping with redundancy

Repetitious redundancies that repeat themselves. We've all seen them. However, they still exist in many companies and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get rid of them. Instead, they just have to be dealt with in the easiest and best way possible so that workers can get on with their lives. But what happens when your job - and by extension you - have been made redundant? That's a much more difficult thing to deal with on several levels. It's initially problematic because you lose your job. If your job is redundant it won't be needed and will generally be eliminated. Some people are lucky enough to be offered a different position at their company, but most are simply shown the door. If you've worked there for a long time and you have a family to support that can be very difficult and painful to deal with. You might wonder how you're going to pay your bills. That's a legitimate concern, but so is getting another job, and that isn't something that's always easy to do once you've been made redundant by a company.


The chances are that other companies you could work for in the same field are experiencing the same issues with redundancy, so you could really struggle with getting another job. However, losing hope and confidence is never a good choice. You could go back to school to get further skills, you could train for a different job, or you could simply take a job that's not in your field so that you'll have some money coming in. These might not be ideal solutions, but the important thing is that you are aware of the redundancy issue and that you do something to correct it if possible. When working toward avoiding redundancy, you need to do some research into your field and find out what skills and education will make you marketable again. Then find a way to get these things so you can get back into the job market. If you don't want to stay in your field, find out what fields need people and train for that. You'll have a much lower chance of redundancy in that case.
