Attending school not only enriches the youth's mind with vital information, it also helps the kids realize their hidden talents. Extracurricular activities in school are a measure of non-scholastic ability of the student, which mostly involves sports, social interaction, and hobbies or interests. Aside from the over-all academic performance, extracurricular activities are also checked by an employer when seeking for recruits so they would know the applicants' interests.
An example of an extracurricular activity that seems always present in schools is the theater guild. Contrary to what is probably a generally accepted fact, theater guilds are not only for students who have a knack for the performing arts. Theater guilds also accept students who want to be behind the scenes of a production, like props men, production staff, technical staff, costume designers, and even creative writers. Theater guilds produce plays at least twice every academic year. The production can be a musical, a variety show, or just about any kind of production that the guild can come up with.
In coming up with a production, the first step is to determine the key persons - the director, stage manager, producer, technical director, and props and costume designer. The director manages every aspect of the production, including the story. Stage managers make sure that the performers know their lines and are present. The producer and production staff gathers funds and audience through promotions and sponsors. The technical director takes care of the technical aspects of the production, like sound effects or stage lighting. Lastly, props and costume staff makes the play more flamboyant by designing and making props and costumes for the actors.
A recurring problem when it comes to inter-school productions is the budget. Since theater guilds are ran only by students who are obviously not yet professionals in this field, they find it hard to collect financial resources from potential sponsors. The production staff needs to come up with ideas to attract possible sponsors like giving out
poster prints and tickets to sponsors who can give financial support to the guild, and they may also allow company sponsors to sample their products to the guild and to their audience.
Poster printing is important to theater guilds not only for sponsorships but most especially for promotions.
