Watching movies is definitely one of the most favorite pastimes of people, young and old alike. Films are just as entertaining as watching television or listening to music, but give viewers a better sense of anticipation and pleasure. Watching movies can get a little costly, but in the end, the cost is surely all worth it.

Nowadays, mainstream films are not the only ones getting all the attention. Independent and digital films have been popping-up from different countries. These films, despite the lack of promotion and advertisement because of insufficient or limited budget, are collecting nominations and accolades because of its high-quality story that can match even the most over-budgeted and overrated films. The most popular example today would probably be Slumdog Millionaire, an independent film totally unheard of until it swept both the Golden Globe and the Academy Awards.

Amateur filmmakers who do not have enough resources to release films in the mainstream scene use other sources to share their work to the world. Video hosting sites like YouTube.com allows its users to upload videos that other people who visit the site can watch. Sites like this become the filmmakers' outlet that lets their audience see their work. The negative aspect to simply uploading short or digital films is that the audience is not paying to view it, unlike in major motion pictures. Financial support is important when it comes to producing films because all the equipment used for filmmaking is bought, or at least repaired and upgraded, to be able to function well.

Small film festivals like those held at schools, offices or the community helps the filmmakers expand their audience. Their films are shown on a local gymnasium or auditorium, either for free or, preferably, for a small fee. Through these events, the audience is informed on filmmakers to watch out for. The films also provide entertainment to the students or the locals, and not to mention financial aid for the continuing works of the filmmaker.

Organize this kind of event on your town and have poster prints ready to spread the word. The filmmakers should also consider poster printing so that the audience will have an idea on what the movie is about.
