Bright-eyed songstress Jewel excels at everything she puts her vocals to, but unfortunately she will not get the chance to test out her legs, as it was recently announced that the newly-minted country singer will not compete on this season of Dancing with the Stars as planned. At some point during her intensive training for the program, the singer fractured her tibias in both legs, leading to an MRI and her resignation from this season of Dancing with the Stars, where she was set to compete against her husband and rodeo cowboy Ty Murray.
The news of her early departure from the ABC television competition Dancing with the Stars comes just days before the show is set to air, sending ABC scrambling to find another celebrity to take her place. Her disappointing run with Dancing with the Stars does not make her the first dancer whose dancing fame has ended because of injury, however, and already this season already another celebrity has dropped out of the dancing race, as well. Nancy O'Dell, a co-host of Access Hollywood, was also scheduled to appear in this season's Dancing with the Stars but has had to resign, suffering two knee cartilage tears during rigorous practices and rehearsals for the show.

Both Jewel and O'Dell join the DWTS graveyard of injured celebs to drop out of the dancing competition, following in the footsteps of pro volleyball player Misty May-Treanor, comic Jeffrey Ross, actress Susan Lucci and actor Christian de la Fuente. The Bachelor's most recent reject Melissa Rycroft will take O'Dell's place in DWTS this season, while former Girl Next Door Holly Madison is the next blonde in line to replace Jewel.
While Jewel will no longer be competing for the title of Dancing with the Stars reigning champion, the chirpy vocalist will still push onward through her injuries, performing at a number of scheduled performances across the country. Jewel tickets are still available online, and if you can't see her waltz across your TV screen every week on Dancing with the Stars, don't miss your chance to see her in concert!

Jewel Kilcher got her rise to fame as a folk singer after attending Michigan's prestigious Interlochen Fine Arts Academy in her teenage years, moving to Southern California in the early '90s and lighting up the San Diego coffeehouse circuit with her magical guitar and cleverly-penned songs. She eventually lured record execs into her web and inked a deal with Atlantic Records in the mid-'90s, releasing her debut LP Pieces of You in 1995.
The soft and sweet folk album was an instant success on the mainstream music scene, and top-charting singles "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games" all propelled Jewel's debut to more than 12 million in record sales, making her a hot commodity on the folk scene. Kilcher continued bounding down her free-spirited path of success through the rest of the '90s, enjoying further fame with singles such as Hands.
As the 2000s started showing a shift in music trends, Jewel began to transform with the trends of the times, ditching her bleeding-soul folk singer persona for that of a pop star with 2003's 0304, a sugar-coated dance-pop confection that featured the syrupy single "Intuition." The ill-advised single thrust her back into the spotlight but left fans pondering the disappearance of the "folk Jewel," and she spent the next few years perfecting her new sound and image.
By 2008, however, Jewel had made the successful switch to the country music industry, once again abandoning her image and this time picking up a cowboy hat and a twang in the process. Jewel's country debut came in 2008 with the release of Perfectly Clear, a number one album on the country charts that spawned the radio-ready classic "Stronger Woman." Jewel's country music transformation has been nothing but smooth sailing so far, and despite a failed attempt at Dancing with the Stars Jewel continues to wow the public with her catchy tunes and charming persona.
