The way I see it, setbacks and disappointments are God's way of saying, "you might want to think about 'reorganizing your thoughts here. Step back from what you've been doing to see things newly."
Everything is an opportunity. That includes what we call disappointments. How can we know what the result would have been if things happened differently? Suppose you wanted something really badly. You did everything in your power to make it happen, but for some reason it fell through. What you don't have the luxury of knowing is why it didn't happen. Perhaps in the bigger picture of life, had you gotten what you were asking for it might have taken you off course for bigger and better things to come. You couldn't possibly know that. Yes it's true you didn't get the result you were after, but maybe that outcome you so desired would have brought on unexpected problems.
'We spend so much time interpreting what happened, that we get lost in the story. We become so attached to our result, that if 'it doesn't happen, we lose sight of how truly powerful we are, and end up feeling like failures.
Sound familiar?
Here are a few tips to help get you from one thought process to the next and help you regain your confidence.
Imagine if you were to experience life without having 'judgements about everything. 'You just allowed yourself to be in the experience with no opinion of what was happening.
Just pure experience.
We keep going with our original objective, noticing things that happen along the way. 'Once the moment is over, it's in the past. Now we're on to the next moment. Each moment, when separated from the previous 'moment gives the opportunity for new things to happen. If we focus on the setback, we're only going to get more of the same.
When something throws you, using phrases like, "isn't that interesting?" is a great tool. There are no judgements about what happen.'The word "interesting" is neutral in its emotional charge, thereby allowing the mind to search creatively for some new meaning.
The route to your end result may have changed, but that doesn't mean the party is over. It's just an opportunity to look with a fresh perspective.
Thought is such a powerful tool. 'Stay out of dredging up what happened before as though it is an omen of what's to come now.
How many people do you talk to every day who speak as though what happened in the past is the prediction for the future? If you spend enough time talking with them, you will either be bored to tears, or able to finish their sentences. 'Not to mention how powerless they sound as they broadcast the future.
With that unique and lovely mind you were given, and a proper roadmap to creating, you can do ANYTHING!
This is a new moment, so think newly!'
It may seem a challenge at first to be able to see the rainbow in disappointing situations, but keeping an open mind, void of any attempt to categorize events and label them good or bad will free you up from the heaviness of thinking you know what's next for you.'
Each moment is a new one. Give it the chance to bring forth the infinite possibilities that exist.
