If you’re one of those gourmets and you want to pick up a new restaurant for eating out this evening; what are you expected to do? Do a bit of Google-ing or ask your friends about a nice, cool place? Most probably you ask your friends or colleagues at work – because you trust their opinion and experience. This is one of the primary differences between Google and social networks that can give Google searching mechanism an overwhelming defeat.

Facebook coupled with other social networks provide a searching cardinal for people to share their opinions, experiences and connect in everyway they can with those that are in their social network. Thus it becomes easier for people to make their decisions based on the opinions made by those whom they trust. While Facebook helps people like this, it’s ominous to Google! Goggle search engine listings are devoid of opinions and friend’s ratings. Even though Google’s constant struggle, against its traditional rivals, incorporates public ratings on its searches but they aren’t based on the user’s trust, which means a big share of searching activity is taken up by Facebook because of Google’s inability to deposit credibility in their SERPs.

Information has taken a new mould in the converging conversational social medium where there’s less space left for Google to prove its searching abilities while Facebook is thriving too fast to sweep the battle field. This is not just an analysis put forward by a random blogger; the fact is also confessed by one of the Google professionals, Mr. Tokusei, according to him, "We haven't gotten to the point where results are seen as if they come from someone you know". With blazing market changes, Google needs to pull up its sleeves if it wants to remain in competition because this is just a single blow from Facebook - rapidly growing social platform, it might get stronger!
