Track and field events has a number of events within it, every athletic event falls in one of the two categories of field or track. Some of the most popular track and field events along with the athletic equipments have been listed here.

FIELD EVENTS
Within the roof field events, there are two main categories of: throwing and jumping.

Throwing: The throwing events are discus, shot put, hammer and javelin. Discuss and javelin has the deciding factor of the longest throws, use a disc and long spear correspondingly. While throwing discuss, it is important that you concentrate on the positioning of your feet, use the dominant hand, and allow the discus to rest in your hand so that you can have an ideal grip. Once you start the throw it is a task of a split second, hence it is important that you settle well and then follow the basics appropriately. The disc has to be released at an angle of 40-45 degree. The disc used in discuss throw is available in varying qualities depending on the rim weight of the disc; the standard diameter of the disc is 8' 2 1/2". These days, the athletic stores are looking after every minute quality details.

Javelin has been an Olympic event since 1908. There are three different ways of gripping the javelin, place the javelin in the center of your palm and then hold it with your fingers with the index finger at the back and the thumb after it. Look towards the direction of the throw, face the shoulders and hips in front and start the run up. Concentrate on the way you need to shift your weight with a cross step. Shot put and hammer throws require heavy ball, so they involve shorter throws.

Jumping: With regard to the jumping events, there are four main events called as long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault. The pole vault requires the athletes to jump high over a bar. Long jump, the athlete takes a running start before jumps in the pit of sand. In high jump, the athlete jumps over a slab at a predetermined height after the running start.

TRACK EVENTS
Short distance events: The 100-meter dash is the shortest of the track events; however for smaller indoor tracks the popular 60-meter dash is widely practiced. The shorter tracks are referred as sprints or dashes. In addition to the shorter track and field events, 100-meter dash, 200 meter and 400 meter are very popular. Hurdles is another event wherein the runner has to skip the evenly spaced hurdles. Men usually compete for 110 meter high hurdles or 400 meter hurdles and women compete in the 100-meter hurdles.

Middle & long distance events: The middle distance running events include 800, 1600, and 3200 (2 mile) races. The common long distance events are 5000 and 10000 meter races. Relay is another common event, wherein there will be four players running a part of the race each. Some of the most common relays are 4*100- 400 meters (here each athlete runs 100 meters).
