Many Americans feel that they don't need their credit so why is it so important to monitor their credit now. In fact, I have heard many people tell me that they have their home, car and good job why should they really care what their credit score is right now. It scares me that someone can be so naïve when it comes to credit and their financial responsibilities. It clearly shows that some people just don't understand why credit is so important to them.

It truly is not important to have a lot of credit when you have the most important things under control but keeping your credit score up all of time is critical to good financial management. The reason for having a good credit score all of the time is because you can then get additional credit if you need it. For example, what if your car breaks down and you need to replace it. Additionally, What if you lose your home for any reason and need to either fix or change your living arrangement. Finally, if you need to get a new job, having a good credit score will help you if your new employer checks your credit.

Finally, what if you have a life changing event and need to have some money for a medical emergency. With a good credit score, you can use the equity in your home to help pay the medical expenses. These are things that happen to people every day and can completely devastate a family if they are not prepared. Proper preparation can help you from becoming overwhelmed with any financial emergency.

Here are some suggestions to help you be properly prepared. First, put away about 6 months worth of income to have as your personal nest egg. Next, reduce your used credit to below 30% of your available credit balance. Finally, make sure that all of your payments are made on time and in full (Your Credit History is largely based on this). This will help you have a good credit score and be in a positive credit situation.

Having a good credit score is critical all of the time now. Don't let your bad habits leak into your financial situation because this can give you a bad credit score. Bad Credit can keep you from getting loans that you need or keep you from a job that would better your situation. Keeping your credit score up is something that you should fight for each and every day. If you find mistakes on your credit report then you should do everything you can to get them corrected.
