National government of Indonesia is targeting a rapid growth of furniture export from US$ 2, 1 billion in 2008 become US$ 2, 5 - US$ 3 billion in 2009. It is proven that the state puts furniture and handicraft as the economic mainstay since they have good design, workmanship and products quality.
Indonesia furniture exporter preserves the business market by arranging exhibitions local and international, buyer lobbying or finding new market for alternative outside the main market. As Industry Minister, Fahmi Idris, said in mid March 2009 in the opening of International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (IFFINA) that exporter should encourage themselves for making efficient and taking advantage from modern technology.
Furthermore, Indonesia furniture exporter is expected to be creative in making product to solve the most problem appeared today regarding to the global crisis. Although it didn’t struck Asia or even Indonesia but the impact is getting high. Buyers make a high bargaining power asking more discounts up to 30% lower compared to the previous year. If this happens for a sometimes can be predicted a lot of furniture employee get fired.
The other problem to be solved is the material supply. The legal certificate of timber is a must for exporting the furniture as Japan, USA, and Europe insist. Hence, government found a solution by making wood terminal in whole provinces which will be accomplished in this October. They are made to control the in and out timber brought by the private company.
