18 Tactics and Strategies to Increase Traffic and Web Site Conversions

I am always amazed at the simple things that get left out when trying to increase traffic and conversions to my clients websites. I see literally hundreds of emails and web pages daily all attempting to broaden their traffic and conversion rates.

Before I suggest some of the ways that I see working on a daily basis to drive traffic and increase conversions, I have to say that without an autoresponder service you are losing probably 90% of your business to other marketers. It is almost impossible to make a go of it in the Internet Marketing world without one.

I don't care what service you use - just make sure you have one! It's the first rule to higher conversions and a successful Internet business no matter what niche you are in.

First here are some of the better known ways to drive traffic..

Always create a Blog that talks about your main site and points towards it. Easy and free with Wordpress or Blogger. Gmail owns Blogger so do you think they list themselves first? You betcha!


Submit articles to article directories - a consistent approach to this has been proven to work over time - you can use a service to send your article to many directories at once. Google it - these sites want your articles - especially if they are informative and interesting.

Join blog communities and blog carnivals - Google is your friend for finding these easily.

Make a Squidoo Lens based on your long tail key words - if you don't know what that is well the short version is it is a phrase that describes your site and one that someone searching in any search engine (Yahoo, Google etc) might likely type in. Say "Caribbean Spicy cooking"

Use Facebook to network and join the groups that are like minded.

Get a TWITTER account and post as much as yo can along with following as many people as you can.

Create Free classified ads on USfreeAds

Post ads on Craigslist.

Answer questions on Yahoo answers and link them to your site.

Some others ways that are less well know include posting your site as a RSS feed on My.Yahoo and RSS directories. This will really increase your search engine optimization.


Learn how to post videos on YouTube that are linked to your sign-up page. It's not as hard as a lot of people think and is a huge social networking site.

Create short reports - even a page long- and give them away with your links in them. provide some quality information to show visiting your site will benefit the reader.

Join Giveaways - a great way to build your list, increase traffic and also get yourself some useful products to resell. There are plenty of them these days - you can always get the latest from my site. I am a big fan of them and the learning curve is very small.

If your site has really good worthwhile information then link it with Wikipedia and Wikihow - make sure your providing great information!

About conversions! What does this mean? Well if 100 people visit your website and 10 people take the action you want then that is a conversion . Maybe they sign up for your newsletter or they buy your product -but they have not just hit and run. (PS a 10% conversion rate would be considered very high in many cases)

So what does it take to enhance conversions? A sign up form of course! Do you have one on your site? Put one right now and put it near the top of your page. It should be linked to your autoresponder service and set up with at least a few great and properly spaced follow-up messages. The art of the follow-up is a whole other topic which I go into in much greater detail on my blog and you can always check that out if you are interested. It is really where all your sites income will be generated from.

Make sure you capture your visitors email addresses - then you can present them with your case as to why your product is great.

Offer something free that relates to your site as an incentive to sign up for your newsletter - remember they wouldn't be visiting your site if they weren't looking for information relating to your topic!

Keep your pages simple, neat, clean and focused - offer a single product and don't put a lot of unnecessary links away from your site. Why would you want to make a nickel from Google Adsense and lose potentially hundreds of dollars because you enticed your visitors to go elsewhere. promote yourself - not some other company!
