Those people working in Olympic construction jobs have started work on the Greenway cycle and walking route, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has confirmed.
Construction work has started on redeveloping a 2.3km section of the path, which stretches between the Olympic Park site, Victoria Park and West Ham tube station.
David Higgins, the ODA's chief executive, explained that flowers and bushes would be planted along the Greenway route in addition to the structural upgrades, these improvements will open up this important walking and cycling path to thousands more people before, during and after the London 2012 Games..
Workers will resurface and widen the Greenway, while new signs and seating will also be installed to enhance the visitor experience of those walking or cycling to the 2012 games
Construction supplies will be sourced from recycled materials at the Olympic Park site, including bricks, manhole and drain covers and bollards.
Diversions will be put in place on parts of the Greenway in order for the scheme to be carried out. For more information on London 2012 please visit the
