Eric Patrick Clapton was born in the green country of Surrey, England on March 30, 1945. He was the son of Patricia Molly Clapton and Edward Walter Fryer. Before Eric was born, Fryer returned to his wife in Canada. Because of it being so difficult in the mid 40's to raise a child as a single parent, Patricia's parents stepped in as surrogate parents for Eric and raised him as their own. Pat eventually married and moved off to Canada and Germany as her new husband Frank continued his military career. They had two girls and a boy. His half sister's are named Cheryl and Heather. Eric's half brother Brian was killed in from a road accident in 1974 at the age of 26. Eric's household was quite musical. His grandmother played the piano and his mother and uncle both enjoyed listening to the sound of the big bands. Eric later found out that his father was a gifted musician playing in different dance bands in the Surrey area. With a quiet and polite personality, Eric was characterized as an above average student with an aptitude for art.

By 1958, Rock and Roll exploded onto the world and Eric became a huge fan. On his thirteenth birthday he asked for a guitar. With great ambition, he strived for perfection and desired to master the art of music. At the age of 16, he began studying at the Kingston College of Art on one year probation. With nothing but guitar playing and Blues on his mind, Eric was expelled at the end of the year for lack of progress as he wasn't submitting enough work. He was overtaken by the desire for music knowledge and skill. This then led him to the exploration of the roots of rock & roll in American Blues. Eric joined his first band called The Roosters at age 17. This was just the beginning of his upward spiraling career. Gaining a huge reputation as one of the best guitar players in the group, Eric suddenly began making a name for him self. He earned the nickname "God" by an admirer's graffiti on the wall on London's Islington Tube Station that read, "Clapton is God". With constant work taking place, Clapton continued to join many other bands and worked with the greatest musicians known to man. He has gone down in history as one of the greatest blues guitar geniuses of our time. Eric Clapton Songs have been playing on the radio since the seventies.
