Text messaging involves the sending of short text-based messages between
cell phones, pagers,
PDAs, or other handheld devices. The most common text messaging technology standard is SMS (Short Message Service), which allows users to send messages of up to 160 characters (letters and numbers) in length. Most text messaging services charge a fixed fee for each message sent.
