Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. A Stroke is also known as a ‘brain attack'. A stroke happens when the blood flow to the brain is prevented. Without the essential oxygen and nutrients required the brain cells start dying. There are two types of stroke. Ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is disrupted due to clogging in the artery or due to blood clots. The second type of stroke known as hemorrhagic stroke occurs when an artery that takes blood to the brain erupts or bursts and as a result, blood flowing into the brain. With the prevention of blood flow, the brain cells start dying and the functions controlled by that particular area of the brain too, suffers. If immediate attention is not given, the cells around the dead cells too start to die. This can result in partial paralysis, loss of speech and body movement and vision. As such, it is important that the person suffering from a stroke is immediately rushed to a hospital for medication.
