When children are playing they have a lot of fun. And the more they are moving their bodies the more fun they get. Yet, becoming older means for many of us that the fun part is not related to exercise any more. Many of my clients over 40 have trouble getting themselves into the gym or doing any sort of exercise, making it tough to lose weight permanently over 40.
Yet, things could be different. In fact, most people doing regular exercise get being in a better mood. If you exercise regularly, you'll be more effective, feel more successful and your mood will be much more stable.
Researchers looked into the effects of exercise on the quality of life- participants were women after menopause. All women were overweight or obese and had a sedentary lifestyle. They received 3 different exercise programs, with different level of intensity. As always in these studies, a control group had no exercise at all.
The consequences are interesting: Even if the women did not lose any weight (that means, they counterbalanced the exercise by eating more), their quality of life enhanced. More exercise lead to better well-being, higher intensity of the exercise program leads to higher quality of life.
And: Even the exercise program with the lowest intensity had a positive effect on the feeling of well-being. As you know, if you need to lose weight permanently over 40 you have to include exercise in your day-to-day life. But you shouldn't do it for some logical, left-brain understanding only. You will feel better and enjoy your life even more- peculiarly if you are over 40.
