Is what they claim really true?
In actuality, most online businesses you come across will not be lying. The ramifications of being caught in a lie legally are too great for nearly all businesses to risk. However, a lot of time and effort is devoted to creating advertisements that do not lie, but use partial truths to lead you to your own conclusions.
For example, "He uses this program and earns a six figure income!" Now, that statement would lead you to believe that this program generates a six figure income. However, that is not what he said. He uses the program and earns that income; he did not say he earns six figures solely from this program.
That is not to say all businesses try to cleverly hide their message behind misleading words. Just be sure to carefully read their message.
Is it really that simple to do?
While there are a few genuine work-free programs, these are typically not going to be your large income generators. The only exception to that rule I have found is Stone Evans' Plug-In Profit sites (info at: http://www.MakoBiz.com/pips.html). As far as legitimacy and potential goes, this program is by far the best I have found. Evans will actually make a website just for you and set up everything you need on that website to make money, and I mean everything. All you have to do is get people to actually visit your site; the rest takes care of itself. That is as simple, straight forward, and easy as any large income business can get.
How much money potential is there really?
That depends on your program. I will say that anything involving residual income (you get paid continually by people who sign up or buy your products instead of once) has great potential. If you are only getting paid for a one time purchase of an item and not continually, then you have to bring a ton of traffic to your site to be constantly selling a ton of products. So a recurring payment plan is definitely easier to maintain and more profitable.
To conclude, skepticism is a good personality trait to have when evaluating which online business to invest in and try. You can not get something for nothing, and there will always be at least a little work and down payment necessary. But keep your eyes open, pay close attention, and you just may find that diamond in the rough.
