If you're like me, you probably have heard of elastin. But - what is it and what does it do for your skin?

Elastin is a protein in connective tissue; it is elastic and enables many tissues including skin to resume its shape after stretching.

Most people periodically pull, poke and pinch their skin. When you're young your skin returns to its original shape and position immediately. However, as you get older the time lag for it to return increases.

Unfortunately, as it happens, the skin on the back of my hand up until recently took 40 seconds to return to its original position - how about yours. Go on give it a pinch and time it?

The bad news is - the time it takes to return will get worse every year you don't do anything about it.

But, the good new is - you can do something positive right now to restore structure and elasticity in your skin.

Elastin fiber is classified as connective tissue consisting of numerous proteins. Therefore, it makes sense that if you can stimulate new elastin proteins the elastin fiber will becomes stronger and regains some of its elasticity.

A question often asked, is can elastin be absorbed into the skin? - And the answer is no.

Elastin is a specialized protein, it's a random coil conformation made up of 830 amino acids.

So - how do you get more elastin?

Well, a small company in New Zealand has figured out a way to stimulate elastin and collagen re-growth. Their new technological breakthrough has enabled them to convert natural keratin into functional keratinTM that is contained in their patented substance Cynergy TKTM.

Functional keratin has the ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin proteins. Obviously, this will have a positive effect on the thickness and elasticity of your skin. Which in turn will reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

As a matter of interest, I have been using a natural skin care cream for just on 8 weeks now that contains Cynergy TK. Initially it took the skin on the back of my hands to recover its shape 40 seconds as indicated earlier. The latest test of 23 seconds confirms in my mind that this particular skin cream is very effective at improving elasticity in my skin.

Another benefit I have noticed, is this part of my hand doesn't damage as easily as it used to when I regularly knocked it. And the amount and depth of the wrinkles has decreased significantly.
