We're living in a time right now when doom and gloom can come to the forefront of our minds so easily. This really is a time to choose whether we want to be sucked into the negativity, or be an inspirational voice to those around us. Switch on the news, leave it on all day, and you'll go to bed fearful, panic-ridden and depressed. I'm not advocating ignorance or denial of life, but I am encouraging a focus on the positive things of life.
We are surrounded by good things -- it's all a matter of perspective and where we put our energy. There are numerous ways that can help keep us upbeat. Our thoughts and emotions pretty much determine our sense of well-being. There are countless examples of people in poverty stricken environments but yet they see the rainbow -- they're aware of the clouds and rain, but the beautiful rainbow takes their attention. On the other end, there are those who may be surrounded by all the comforts of modern living and they are only able to see bleakness of the future. So what should we focus on in these times -- actually in all times? Compassion, family, love, service, faith and gratitude, to name a few. The easiest way to be inspirational is to actually live a life where we incorporate all of these virtues. But yet, we are all prone to those negative voices, and sometimes a nudge of motivation or an infiltration of positive messages for ourselves is what we need before we can be the voice of hope to those around us.
There is a new popularity to return to faith. Maybe it's because of what has happened so recently in our world -- from the sadness of destructive global events to a more personal financial crisis. We're all getting older one day at a time, and with that our network of friends and family increases, and hand in hand -- so does death and illness. The popularity of inspirational quotes and positive fiction books has increased. We're hungry to achieve our potential -- to be a force for good. Besides exercise, eating well and the usual list of living a healthy life, we're also being drawn towards healthy mental endeavors. Our time is precious, so even with reading, we must choose wisely. Will it benefit us in some positive way?
Brighten your environment, believe in yourself, and surround yourself with favorite quotes or beautiful photographs of family or nature. We're in control of our lives and it's never too late to simply change our outlook on life. And when we're able to change our outlook on life, that has the most profound affect on our children, and then they in turn will affect others lives for good.
