* What's in it for me?
* Do you want to promote your cause?
* Do you want good physical exercise...outdoors?
* Do you want to be out and about?
* Do you want to better know business owners in your area?
* Do you want to know which places are the most
popular...maybe shop/dine/drink there later?
* Do you want practice occasionally communicating in other
languages?
* Do you want a weekly obligation saving you from boredom?
* Do you want more purpose in your life?
* Do you want more knowledge about your area?
* Do you want stimulating, adlib encounters with positive
people?
* Do you want to test your various spiels with different
individuals?
* Do you want to keep your brain and body flexible and
active?
* Do you want a refreshing break from your I-Marketing
regimen?
Yes! How do I become involved? Figure out how many flyers
you feel you can comfortably distribute and where you would
like to distribute them. About 100 per hour is a reasonable
guess.
How do I effectively distribute flyers? Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday are your best days for distributing flyers for
an event that upcoming weekend.
Bars, restaurants and beauty salons are excellent
locations...anywhere clientele sit, wait, eat, drink,
socialize. These drops must be in fairly high, visible
traffic areas. Oftentimes other information is in a good
location...e.g. next to a telephone.
It is best to leave no more than 5 flyers at any particular
drop. It is most important that you cover as many drops as
possible. E.g. if you distribute 300 flyers, that means
average 60 drops. As you do your weekly run, you will get
feedback. Some drops will want more and some want less. You
will also begin to develop a friendly relationship with
business owners and staff.
Some drops are not in your market. E.g. many ethnic owned
places do not have many English clientele. This is the main
determining factor whether or not to develop a drop...do the
English speaking frequent this establishment?
When do the majority of establishments open up? In Spain it
is around 7pm or 8pm for bars and restaurants. Beauty salons
and stores tend to close earlier. You want to establish a
positive relationship. Dress up just a little and let them
take the lead. E.g. a good opening question on the first
encounter is, "Did you know my organization is doing
such-and-such this coming weekend?" Oftentimes a customer
overhears and asks for a flyer. Never bother clientele by
taking the lead and passing out flyers...you come off as one
of those guys cruising about trying to sell watches, CDs,
fishing rods and sometimes even electric fans. Not the image
you wish to project!
If you know you are going on a special trip, e.g. a city
tour with visiting relatives and others with similar
interests, take a few flyers with you and pass them out at
the right time...perhaps sometime after everybody is aboard
and the bus has been underway for awhile. Ask the group
leader if OK...most likely they will say...Yes! Or if you
pass a good spot on a weekly basis which is outside your
"territory"...maybe downtown or another shopping
center...drop off a few. Or...perhaps your weekly trip to
get a massage, treatment, spa...etc.
As you establish your route through your territory...always
look for new drops along the way. Places are always opening
up. Check them out... Sometimes you will stumble across
excellent locations totally off the beaten path. Be
creative.
