Noosa National Park

Noosa is a fabulous conglomeration of sun, surf, palm, food and wine, fests and general good life. Yet, kissing the Noosa coastline is the Noosa National Park, a refuge of rare wildlife and plant species. With dozens of enjoyable and adventurous walking tracks, the park is a refreshing experience, slightly different from the usual Noosa most have come to know.

Noosa on the Sunshine Coast is an ideal holiday destination. Its fabulous climate, warm waters, clean beaches and seawater, picturesque beauty, make it a holiday mecca for all. Its gusto of life, numerous festivals, and mouth-watering food and wine have charmed tourists from around the world.

Many points on Noosa Heads also form ideal surfing locations ensuring a steady stream of surfers. Unfortunately, Noosa National Park is not that well known among either travel agents or prospective tourists. When they do come to know about this wonderful park upon arrival, they might not have enough time assigned for it.

Sitting at the doorsteps of Noosa Heads, getting there is very easy, as the Noosa Headland Section of the Park sits at the end of the Park Road, providing easy access.

You might use the local shuttle buses, cabs or even enjoy a stroll along the fabulous main throughfare of Hastings Street.

If you bring your car, however, be warned that you might have parking problems due to scarcity of space. Its certainly not big city style congestion, but the streets are perfectly set up for ambling on foot, and perhaps not so much suited to sitting in your vehicle. Park your car at your accommodation and take a short stroll – this is the perfect place for it !

Although the sun seems gentle here, don't forget to bring your sunscreen, hat and enough drinking water to last a few hours. You should dress properly and comfortably, with comfortable shoes. Bring along your camera and binoculars as there are enough things to be seen and appreciated.

With more than 4000 hectares, the Noosa National Park includes Lake Weyba, Peregian and Coolum. Fast development in the surrounding area makes the Park even more critical to the conservation of rare plant and animal species. Home to the koala and other wildlife like cockatoo, ground parrot, goshawk, wallum froglet, swamp orchid and Christmas Bell, the Park contains some of Queensland's most picturesque coastlines as well as Emu mountains and coastal lowlands.

There is a lot that you can do while at the park. There are many fascinating and adventurous walks within its boundaries and these vary from very easy to challenging and long walks. Walks have color-coded signposts all along laid alongside walking tracks.

For those near the Noosa Headland section, one can take the elementary one kilometer Palm Grove Circuit through hoop pines and piccabeen palms. The Tanglewood track is a 7 kilometre long walk through picturesque bushland along some of the isolated area within the park, which returns through a coastal track.

Other tracks in the Headland section include the Noosa Hill track, the Coastal track and the Alexandria Bay tracks. There are other sections also from which you may arrive at the park. At the Peregian section there is the celebrated and short Ocean track through beach, swamp, sedgelands, forestland and sandy tracks. You can also climb to the summit of the Emu Mountain where there is the summit walk.
Of course, you could take the many guided tours available. The park is also a popular spot for picnics. It is not advisable to take to the sea from any of the beaches approachable from within the park as they are un-patrolled and might have unknown rip (very strong undercurrents) areas.

Noosa has a lot to offer to all. Its hectic yet somehow serene social life and joys might try to give your date with nature a miss. But be assured, a visit to the Noosa National Park is an essential part of the Noosa experience.
