Not surprising is the increase of human disenfranchisement throughout the world.
What is surprising is it's increase in so-called "World economies." . Brazil is
is considered as being one of these emerging economies in the world. Yet the
social aspects of Brazil can be abysmal. While emerging as a powerful economic
force and a serious World player some of the fundamental societal lessons are
being lost on the population as a whole. This point seems contrary to the typical
make-up of most Brazilian families. The foundation of family is firmly entrenched
in Brazil. Family comes first it seems almost to a point of absurdity. It is not
uncommon for example for a child to grow into adulthood to find themselves living
with their family or extended family well into the ages of 40 to 50. Unlike North
American families where the child is expected to leave the nest as soon as possible
after the age of 18 -21. SO the problem with Brazil's abandoned youth stems from
a much more modern problem. That problem is one of survival for many of Brazil's
silent giant poor class. The lack of money is not the point, on the contrary, Brazil's
lower classes the "faveleiras" have the same familial ties any other class has.
The problem derives from a primary cultural demographics shift. A shift that occurs
in most emerging economies. It is a shift from the countryside to the cities. It happened
in America during the Industrial Revolution. Brazil's itinerant population from rural
areas of Brazil are moving to the city populaces at a record pace. These people are
coming to the city in droves seeking a better life. What they find however is something
quite different. Arriving to metropolis' without savings they are forced to seek habitat
in a subculture. This subculture exists in the "favelas" Brazil's equivalent of our
American Ghettos. Here they are introduced into a dog eat dog existence among
thousands of new immigrants like them selves. The favelas have hierarchies unique
to themselves. Many poor find themselves prodded into illicit income producing
avenues like drug peddling for the drug lords or worse yet prostitution. Surviving
the initial impact of big city life the form Brazil has to offer is no easy thing to
conquer. Some do and continue with their lives in a peaceful existence in the favelas.
Many however are consumed by the difficulties they face there. Ultimately, these people's
families are torn apart and the sore consequence of this is the abandonment of children.
We are trying to do our part here by contributing to verified, researched charities in
Brazil who assist the less fortunate by feeding and educating the street children. Every
countries future hopes for a better World lie in the hands of the children. RecycledResinJewelry
