The phrase "on the down low" or "on the low" is becoming a common term among the average middle class persons vocabulary. But it could be a term that you have not heard or are unaware of.
What it most often describes in a nutshell is men that are in heterosexual relationships that engage is homosexual activity on the side. "On the low". It was originally coined to describe African American men that engaged in this behavior but now its used to describe this behavior in men of all races.

Never mind the race issue or even the sexual orientation issue. It's not a black thing a white thing or a gay thing. It's an infidelity thing. Plain and simple it's is adultery and a betrayal, it's infidelity and it's wrong.

For wives of men engaged in this adulterous activity it's very difficult to see the warning signs or catch them in the act of infidelity. It's just not something the average wife would be looking for. If your husband is out late with the boys you might think it's safe and no need to suspect. Now if the situation were reversed and he was with a female friend you would naturally be on alert to any improper behavior or familiarity between them. So because your man is around other men your guard is let down.
