Why Tune Your Guitar
If your new to playing the guitar you might wonder why you need to tune it. The answer to this is simple. In order for your notes to sound correctly you need to make sure each string is in it's proper place. This makes the overall sound of your guitar its absolute best.
In order to tune your guitar correctly you will need some equipment. The best device is something known as a tuning fork. There are some other things available, but if you want your guitar to sound its best I highly recommend a tuning fork.
How To Use A Tuning Fork
You should first make your tuning fork vibrate by tapping it lightly. To do this you should tap it on a hard object. Once you have done that you should place the handle on the soundboard. As you do this you should move the handle slowly towards the bridge. You should then hear a high pitched A if you have done it correctly.
The best way to see if your tuning correctly is to touch the fifth string. Just touch it gently. You should get a very high pitched sound.
If you don't like the idea of manual tuning then you do have other options. There are devices available that are called strobe tuners. These are not cheap, but they do work well. Personally I'd rather use this method as they make it much more simple.
As you can tell tuning your guitar is rather important in order to get the correct sound. The good the good news is that you do have options when it comes to getting it tuned properly. And if none of the ones discussed suit your needs then you can always take it to a shop for a professional tuning.
