As probably the most recognizable face of the New York Yankees next to Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter is one of the best shortstops in baseball today and quite possibly one of the best in MLB history.

Nine all star appearances, three golden gloves both an All Star and World Series MVP and World Series rings, Derek Jeter has proved that he is the total package. Not the homerun hitter like his teammate and fellow Yankees superstar A-Rod, but with a lifetime batting average of .317 and a reputation for clutch hitting, Jeter is the ideal lead off hitter for any ball club and a manager's dream.

Back in 1995, Jeter made his New York Yankees debut and hasn't looked back since. Being only one of three current players on the Yankees roster (Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera) that have been with the club there entire professional career, Jeter has failed to disappoint.

Although Jeter only played 13 games in his opening season before getting the boot back to the minors, the following he was given a second chance to prove his worth and he did it in a big way on opening day of 1996 by hitting his first Major League homerun which was the beginning of what would become a very successful rookie campaign where he was award with the Rookie of the Year award.

As the years rolled by in New York and the Yanks continued to be the best team in baseball winning World Series year after year, Jeter did nothing but improve and consistently be atop important statistical categories like batting average, runs and hits making a name for himself as one of, if not the best lead off hitter in baseball.

In 2000, Jeter started to get some much need recognition for being at the top of his game as he was able to win both the All Star and World Series MVP awards in the same year and hitting a homerun in the All Star game which was the first time a Yankee had hit a homerun in the All Star game since Yankee great Yogi Berra did it back in 1959.

Although faced with some controversy when A-Rod came to New York because of the dilemma of the two players playing the same position, Jeter was able to maintain his importance to the club and remain the face of the New York Yankees franchise while starting performing at a high level.

As of today, the Yankees are still one of the best teams in the MLB lead by Jeter and A-Rod along with a lot of promising talent, but Jeter is still and we remain to be one of the most loved players of the New York Yankees franchise and will one day have his #2 Yankees jersey retired which will probably go down of one of the most famous Yankees jerseys of all-time.
