The Global Oil Crisis - Is There A Solution?

The Oil Crisis is not a new subject by anyone’s standards. Numerous discussions are held on how might this crisis affect the transportation industry.

Global temperature changes and consuming of oil reserves make the transport industry’s future insecure and bring to light the use of electric or hybrid cars, according to WWF for Nature.

Making this kind of transport part of reality will lower considerably the risk of a climactic catastrophe issued by the increasing carbon dioxides emissions.

The rapport shows that the use of entirely non polluting vehicles will increase the risk of economical and political conflicts that could be generated by access to oil supplies. Due to the fact that these exhaustible resources are to be found only in some parts of the world and the transport relies on 95 percent on fossil fuels only, the risk of new military conflicts may become a reality.

The peaceful and viable second choice for the future transport is given by the railroads, bicycles and electric or hybrid cars, working with batteries and hydrogen. According to WWF, the best choice is the use of electric energy.

The electric energy can be used for subways, streetcars and buses. The bicycle is another way of transport among the above mentioned. One of the WWF officials says that when there won’t be polluting cars on the streets anymore, it would be a pleasure to ride a bicycle.

The presage underlines the results of recent tests which proved that electric hybrid cars are up to three times more efficient than the cars that use only hydrogen. The less accepted choice is that of vehicles who use biofuel or liquefied coal.

“Aside the fact that their production is quite expensive, they are still polluting, although in a smaller measure” according to the report. Therefore, as WWF specialists say, the objective of making a safe future for transport, based on concept of a clean energy, can’t be fulfilled unless accelerating the commercialization of electric cars.

According to Klaus Toepfer, the former executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in the following years fossil fuels supplies will decrease considerably and the hydrogen motor will be the solution for avoiding the energy crisis. According to him hydrogen is the energy of the future.

Although hydrogen has some problems, like some uncontrolled explosions in the motor, solutions can be found for that too. In the next years fossil fuel levels will decrease, which will lead to wars for the remaining fuel.

Hydrogen can be easily created and does not pollute. Maybe for some it is strange to be talking about reactors with very high temperatures that could process the hydrogen, but it was the same when man wanted to go to the moon. For many it was fiction, but now it’s a reality. We live in times of industrial revolution and we must find solutions to live, says Klaus Toepfer.

Toepfer said many times that the environment policy is actually a peace policy for the future and that it is important to create a culture of cooperation and reciprocal respect between north and south, between rich and poor in order to avoid tension in a world where vital resources cannot be granted anymore.
