Imagination

In his song "Imagine", John Lennon captured a utopian image of the world we all dream of. He reminded us that it is in our hands to bring into reality that which we imagine. The tool of imagination, then, is for making the impossible possible.

When we reflect on the word 'imagination' our mind may race with a multitude of thoughts, feelings and possibly doubts. Suddenly something that could have been fascinating, exceptional and astonishing may also begin to manifest our fears! When and how did we lose the innocence and purity of this wonderful gift?

When our imagination runs wild it often results in restless and peace-less behaviour. However, learning to appreciate and play with our imagination is the key to very beautiful and creative meditation experiences which will inevitably overflow into our life.

The mind has the capability of thinking of an infinite number of creative options and solutions, if we would just pause for a moment in stillness and filter out the waste that is blocking all productive imagination. When we allow our mind full freedom, we get glimpses of a multitude of experiences and a hint of its power. Then we see how capable it truly is.

Meditation is one very powerful avenue to regain a healthy balance and perspective on this important tool. In meditation we allow our mind to form images of and ideas about things never seen or experienced. In other words, we give our minds the mental space to be free. When this tool is used correctly, one can develop novelty and live through what would otherwise seem unfathomable.

To lose the appreciation and use of our imagination would be like losing our joy for living. Thus for some, finding a balance between the creative and practical - imagination and so-called reality - is hard and can be immobilizing. To seek out and live in balance between the imagination and the practical is to live in harmony with your soul.

Take time this week to let your imagination run wild… peacefully… and imagine:
Your perfect self We would all agree that we could be better people - kinder, sweeter, more tolerant, patient, energetic, disciplined etc. So what does that look like?
Your perfect world A place that is filled with complete peace, love and joy. A place where there is absolute beauty, abundance and every being lives in harmony.

Imagine all that and a life without fear… and you have just seen perfection.
Om Shanti
