How it works
"It works by creating tiny columns of heat in the skin, and that heated tissue in these columns instigates the natural healing process to form new collagen," says Dr Nicholas Walsh, one of Ireland's leading dermatologists. I've had a couple of sessions for acne scarring, and have found the results fantastic. And not only did it reduce the appearance of the scars, but it also visibly rejuvenated and plumped up my skin, making it look younger and fresher.
"Also, the advantage of Fraxel is that there is little or no downtime. Patients can hide the slight redness under make-up immediately afterwards. There may be some bruising for a few days afterwards, but again, make-up can disguise this."
Treatment details
A typical treatment lasts about 20 minutes and costs around €500 per treatment. Five to six treatments over a three to six months period are usually needed. Laser treatment is unregulated in Ireland, so it is recommended that treatment is only carried out by a dermatologist.
