Blending the Past with the Present

From my earliest recollection, I've been fascinated by those old abandoned buildings you pass along America's highways. The middle child of 5, I was raised by 2 school teacher 'history buffs'. We were exposed to many of the incredible battlefields, museums and mansions that encompasses the makeup of the American story.

As wonderful as those sites are, what about those that didn't make the list of historic landmarks? How can you pass a deserted house, and not wonder about the family that used to live there? The old one-room schoolhouse that has either been left to deteriorate or transformed into someone's residence? My absolute favorite; no, the one that breaks my heart the most are those incredible 2 and 3 story brick buildings left to languish on our once vibrant Main Streets? Abandoned for the Walmart store on the outskirts of town.

I envision children running around the schoolyard that still harbors the rusting remants of a maypole or slide. A wife hanging laundry on a now empty line. A railroad worker coming across a former track, now turned into a concrete trail for people to rollerblade on.

I have begun to put my fantasies into a visual medium. My site, http://www.crossroadsintime.us features pictures that I have created using photographs. Some of them have been researched, and created using photos of the actual people that lived there. Some are just my imagination.
