And along with all the other activities to keep the holidaymaker busy – from sailing to windsurfing – there are also, of course, a number of excellent golf courses to choose from right across the island. As such, it ultimately doesn’t matter where you stay, you shouldn’t be too far away from a cracking Tenerife golf course.
Here, then, is a quick selection of four courses that would really bring to life any golfer’s Tenerife trip.
Royal Tenerife
The Golf del Sur course and the Royal Tenerife country club is beloved of Spanish golfers on their Tenerife trips (or as they’d put it, viajes Tenerife), And that’s as good a recommendation as any, since after all, they know a thing or two about what makes a good golf course!
Golf del Sur is one of several excellent Tenerife golf courses to be found on the south of the island. Known for a couple of seriously tricky holes (notably 3 and 5), it’s also surrounded by some marvellously dramatic natural features such as cacti filled ravines and gorges.
Abama
With its palm trees (of which there are no less than 90,000) licked by a warm sea breeze, Abama is a decidedly pleasant spot for a round of golf in Tenerife. Designer Dave Thomas’ vision includes some 22 separate lakes that both complete the picture perfect scene and provide a tempting hazard to plop a ball into!
Amarilla Golf
The Donald Steele designed Amarilla Golf course is yet another of the various spectacularly situated Tenerife golf courses. If the views out to sea from the fifth hole invariably get the plaudits, then there are plenty of spots throughout the course where golfers are treated to magnificent views of Mount Teide.
Golf Costa Adeje
Down to the south of the island, the Costa Adeje is one of the better golf courses in Tenerife with a design that takes in the existing farming terraces to unique and testing effect. It’s also one of the more attractive of Tenerife golf courses with stunning views out to the island of La Gomera.
