Was Jesus Black

Was Jesus Black? I can’t imagine why would some people really ask that question. The Bible is so detail-descriptive about the genealogy of Jesus, yet, people tend to have the strangest ideas about things so simple and clear.

Well, let me add my commentary just quickly, hoping to contribute to this theme in a positive and constructive manner. There are two genealogies of Jesus described in the Bible, one in Matthew and the other in Luke (Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38). Both lines come through King David, but through two different sons of his. The generations given in Matthew are through David’s son Solomon up until Jacob – the father of Joseph, who became the husband of the supernaturally conceived Virgin Mary. The generations given in Luke are through David’s son Nathan (2 Samuel 5:14) up until Heli – the father of the Virgin Mary. Please note that Luke 3:23 states Joseph as “the son” of Heli. Mary is indeed the daughter of Heli, but since women are not typically mentioned in Hebrew genealogies, Joseph is inserted instead in the genealogy, as Heli's son.

Both genealogies originate from the tribe of Judah in Israel, so there is no possibility whatsoever for Jesus to have been white or black, but He was a typical Hebrew type of a Person.

Let me finish by tracing the human races back to the time of Noah. Shem, Ham and Japheth were the three sons of Noah and their generations you can find in Genesis 10:1-32. By studying the territories and nations that came out of these three sons of Noah, right after the flood, we can generally conclude that Japheth settled in the North, West and East Europe, as well as in Asia; Ham settled in Africa; and Shem settled in countries surrounding Palestine. So, it is a corporate theological consent and logic that Israelites came from the descendants of Shem, the black people came from the descendants of Ham and the white people came from the descendants of Japheth.

So, was Jesus black? NO! Was He white? NO again! He was 100% Hebrew!

May God Bless You!
