Why you should upload a simple website as soon as possible

Upload a simple website today

One method of ranking that search engines use when comparing websites is their age. The longer your website addess has been displaying content for search engines to read, the more likely it is to be ranked highly. That is why it's imperative to upload at least one page of relative content about your business while your working on your 'real' website.

Anyone can do it

For those who don't have a clue about HTML (The Internet coding language - Hyper Text Markup Language), the hosting packages discussed in the previous chapter are ideal places to start. It's easy to get intimidated by things initially, but you can have your first website up and running within a few hours - without knowing any web design code. There are an incredible amount of free website design articles and tips available online. Anyone can do it.

Write & upload one page of content

Spend a little time writing a description of around three hundred words about you and your business. You can either pull this content directly from already available literature about your business, or pull together five quick bullet points summarising what you intend to do. Upload this information to your new website, making sure that you add the appropriate meta tags. (A page title, description and keywords). The purpose of this initial basic website isn't to brand your business. Not many of your future customers will even see this page. Don't worry about your image here.

Make sure search engines find you as soon as possible

The important thing is to make search engines instantly aware that you're in business. It'll take months before you start appearing in search results. An important factor in the search engine algorithm is the age of the website. Take time to submit your new website to Google and Yahoo. Don't get carried away with other forms of marketing until you have your proper branded site up and running. You may however wish to start improving your industry credibility by commenting in relevant blogs and forums at this stage.
