Leeds is a large and successful city, which is centrally located in the North of England.
With some fantastic modern architecture & exciting shops, Leeds has really transformed itself in recent years. Despite this, there's still plenty of structures that evoke the city's Victorian splendour. One of the most well-known Victorian structures in the city is Leeds Corn Exchange, which was designed by the architect Cuthbert Brodrick.
Leeds also has the unforgettable Kirkstall Abbey, which can be found on the western outskirts of the city. This lovely Abbey is thought to be one of the most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey in England. Kirkstall Abbey was started in 1152 & took over 75 years to construct. Some great artists, including Turner, have painted the Abbey’s historical ruins. It has historical architecture, as well as some pretty gardens that are packed with wildlife & greenery.
From the high fashion found in the Victoria Quarter to the brilliant designer stores and the independent boutiques of the shopping arcades, Leeds gives visitors many fantastic shopping opportunities. Whether you're looking for a brand new frock or even an unforgettable gift, you're sure to find it in this fun city.
If you'd rather spend your time in Leeds doing more artistic activities, you will be pleased to learn that the city has nine wonderful museums and art galleries. These include the Royal Armouries Museum and the fantastic Henry Moore Institute, so you are sure to find something to entertain you.
If fast-paced city life gets too much, you will be pleased to learn that Leeds has some lovely green spaces and pretty parks, which include the award winning Nelson Mandela gardens. These beautiful gardens were constructed at a cost of £12 million to commemorate the year 2000 and were jointly funded by Leeds city council and the Millennium Commission. The gardens were awarded a prize at the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show.
Lastly, any tourist passing though Leeds should make sure that they taste its night life. With wonderful restaurants, elite bars and amazing nightclubs, you will have an unforgettable night there. Needless to say Leeds has a big gay community, so you will find a handful of fantastic gay clubs dotted around the Calls area, including the legendary Blayde's.
After the night clubs close, why not head to one of the city's luxury hotels for a fantastic sleep? There are loads of exciting hotels in the city, including Quebec’s, so you will be spoilt for choice. If you pick a hotel with bed and breakfast, you will be able to eat away your hangover, too.
Whether you're travelling by car or public transport, you'll find getting to Leeds is easy. It is well served by Leeds Railway Station, also called Leeds City, in addition to running frequent buses & coaches.
