#1 Make a list of each credit card, how much you owe, what your percentage rate is, and who you owe it to.
#2 If you are paying high interest rates then make phone calls to each credit card company. Ask them for a lower interest rate. If you have made every payment on time for the last 6 month or so and you are not over limit then chances are good that you will get a lower interest rate, even if it is just by a few percentage points. Try this at least every 6 months.
#3 Decide which card has the highest interest rate and pay as much extra as you can each month to that card while still paying the minimums on the other credit cards.
#4 When a card is finally paid off completely call the company to get a document stating that you have paid in full and then close that account. You will need to keep that document to prove that you do not owe anything on that account just in case a collection agency contacts you in the future with a bill. This has happened to many people lately, so plan now for possible future scams.
#5 Pat yourself on the back and then move on to the next card. You will need to keep going until all of the cards are paid in full and closed down.
#6 Change your ways. If you do not want to go though this process again then you will need to develop new habits. It would be a good idea to not have any credit cards until you feel comfortable in your new spending habits.
