Why you should stop looking for the perfect workout

If you’ve been looking for the perfect muscle building workout, I’ve got one question for you. Why haven’t you found it?

Now, you may not think that is a very good rhetorical question. After all, the perfect workout could still be out there waiting for you. If you just look in the right place, everything may magically fall into place for you. Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but I don’t think there are any perfect workouts.

First of all, you need to realize that much of the marketing hype that you see on TV for instance is just that – hype. Every new commercial may claim that they found the perfect solution to your problems. I’m not saying that their workouts don’t have any benefit. What I am saying, however, is that those programs are probably not all they claim to be. There are good solid programs that will help you build muscle, but you need to be willing to do your part. That’s why there is no perfect workout, and there is no magic bullet. True success will come from a combination of factors and good ol’ fashion hard work.

Another point about finding the right workout is that you have to take into account your own situation. You need a program that can be customized to your needs and help correct your weaknesses. One famous trainer named Vince Delmonte put it this way:

“The problem with the perfect workout is that it is written by an author in the absence of your abilities, training age, genetics, and goals. You are better off looking for the perfect principles that will ensure muscle growth.”

While there isn’t one perfect workout, there are some principles that you must obey if you want to build muscle. If you don’t know those principles, look for a program that teaches them. The right muscle building program will teach you about progressive overload, proper nutrition, and recovery. It will also address how to correct muscle imbalances before you get started so you can help prevent injury. Most of all, the program will not claim to do the work for you. You still have to show up!
