Would Money Make You Happy?

How many of you do the lottery in the hope of winning millions? With odds of 14 million to 1, the chance of scooping the jackpot is extremely slim to say the least. Many of you however will say “someone has to win”, so why shouldn’t it be me?

To be perfectly honest with you, the thought of having nothing and then suddenly having millions scares me to death. I certainly would not want to experience such a radical change in my circumstances. In my view, wealth should be accumulated through your own hard work and achievements. We know that people do the lottery in an attempt to win millions, but why do people want so much money?

Perhaps many of you might think that having tons of money would solve all of your problems. And so it must logically follow that if you had no problems, then you would be happy. Money buys happiness, as they say. But does it?

A survey of lottery winners demonstrated that the favourite things that they enjoy doing most are the simple things in life. Having a long soak in the bath and reading a good book were just a couple of examples they gave. Isn't that wonderful? You are able to do the things that people with loads of money do to be happy! In other words, it is not the money itself that makes these millionaires happy.

Enjoy what you have and do not take anything for granted. Expressing gratitude will reap its own rewards.

OK. Despite what I have said, you still want to have tons of money anyway. You say that your goal is to have heaps of money.

Be careful here - getting money is not a goal in itself. No matter how much you wish and hope, money will never appear out of thin air as if by magic! Money comes as a result of working hard to achieve a particular goal.

If it is money you want, think of what you would really want to accomplish, which in turn would bring you wealth. If you are determined and motivated enough to reach your goal, then the money will follow. Enjoy the happiness that you feel as you achieve more and more.

Happiness brings money - not the other way around!
