What Stresses You? Part 3

In earlier parts of, What Stresses You, we saw what many people say are two of the main stresses in their lives. Now we are going to look at some of the other stressors. Money is a very big stressor for young married people. I personally think that money should be right at the top because “when money troubles come, love flies right out the window”, as my dad used to say. Marriage is a big adjustment, just as romantic relationships are, but when you add the stress of not enough money, and learning to top the toothpaste and put down the toilet lid, you really have a very big stress to handle.

Money is a necessity of life but the lack of it can cause so much stress that everything else takes the back seat. The best way to deal with a lack of money is to start to spend less. Using plastic when there is not enough cash is where so many troubles begin. So you need to spend less than you make to avoid money stress. The problem with staying within your budget, as many people believe, is that it hinders their self esteem. That is a stressor that has a direct relationship with how much money you have to spend to “keep up with the Joneses”. Some people that what they have defines them and if they don’t have all the things they want then they feel less about themselves.

Physical health is an important stressor although not as many people put it at the top of the list. With so many people fighting diseases and weight problems, physical health should be a priority. Some people take fitness and body image very seriously and allow time to keep up with a regimen of exercise. They are the ones who understand how physical health can determine the longevity of life. The ones who do not take their health seriously end up with more stress from illnesses and disease, plus they don’t usually have a very healthy self image.
Home is another place where stress occurs. Keeping a home running smoothly requires organization, time management, running errands, and many other activities that cause stress. Personally, I think my highest stresses are a combination of work, self-esteem, friendships, health and clutter. Clutter is a solid form of stress that you don’t even realize until you feel the calmness of in a less cluttered environment. I suspect that most people have a combination of major stressors in their lives, as opposed to one "biggie."

There are other stresses that sometimes take a back seat to the “big ones”. Simple everyday stresses like when I'm in the presence of someone wearing the type of perfume that makes me wheeze and gasp for air or being around someone who is smoking or has just smoked. And not so simple everyday stresses that we all face like jobs our neighborhood, pain, health issues, worries about parents health, money issues, body image, mental problems, obsessions, and wrong ways of thinking, Stress can kill you. My goal in life now is to let go and remain stress free.
