Fabroc EXO2 - Innovative Miracle or Faillure

The idea behind FABROC is the arrangement of certain polymer molucule strings in a way that they generate heat when an electric current is applied. Because of the structure of the material the material will never exceed a set temperature. This makes it potentially safe for medical use. But there are also applications in
Building and Clothing. In fact the amount of applications are only limited by our imagination. The big question is does EXO2 lives up to its energy effiency claims.

At the moment the only practical application of EXO2/FABROC is in the field of heated insulating clothing for motorcyclists. And some attempts to use is as a material to keep Apple IPods warm.

In a building you can think of heating walls, floors or roofs. For the aging baby boomers, it can help to keep their joints warm and therefore painless and feeling young. Before they reach the state of overly stiff joints it is perfect in all sorts of hiking equipment. Sleeping bags or tents that Solar recharge a battery during the day, and use their power at night to keep everyone warm and comfortable. The material is very lightweight, the only "could be" drawback could be energy consumption.

Fabroc is durable because contrary to traditional heated fabric's it contains no wiring. Its safe no matter of the amount of power applied to it the temperature just can't rise above the set maximum. This makes it a seemingly safe product without any risk of burning or hurting anyone. According to its manufacturers this makes Fabroc or EXO2 absolutely safe under all conditions

Perhaps that is why the military seems to be interested in the material. Especially the fact that even a thorn vest will still produce heat makes EXO2 ideal in combat situations. Because of the violent nature those activities the possibilities of damage are unlimited. Therefore in action, strength, durability and especially reliability are highly favored.

Still there are multiple applications for Fabroc researched at the moment. EXO2, has medical potential. It can be thought of as a form of ground heating for farmers or gardeners that want to stay ahead of the seasonal curve. There are possibilities for it as a building material. The possibilities seem endless and are only limited by our imagination if it delivers to its claims of energy effectiveness.

The idea that it's impossible to overheat or that there is a maximum to the temperature the material can reach, simply because of its electrical properties make it suitable for a myriad of medical use. Or applications in the form of pre-heated car seats, or even babies blankets.

Our own small scale experiments didn't confirm the energy conservation; in fact it seemed to be rather energy inefficient. The energy consumption was not at all stable, although the heat coefficient showed no diversion from the technical specifications.

Still these are our own home experiments they have no scientific assumptions. At our site we will keep a close but critical eye on the further development of this product.
