Freedom of Speech

People always longed to minimize the limits of their freedom set by the government, but such thing as censure still exists in our society. Some consider that censure helps to refine the media from the dirty influence. Others blame it for preventing the public from knowing the whole story. Some journalists and politicians consider censure to be illegal and try to limit the censure percentage. According to the last data provided by CNN, the level of censure varies from 80% to 10% depending on the level of prosperity and political situation in the country.

Our generation is lucky enough to enjoy freedom of speech. In our society freedom is the main asset of any individual that is cherished, respected and protected. Though of course absolute freedom is a myth and cannot be achieved. In most countries censure sets restrictions only on the information pieces containing strong language, provocations and violence. Indeed, we must be proud of such a great achievement if to consider the history of mass media development. France was the home of the first printed newspapers. They had few similarities with their modern followers. They were called "Gazettes" and were distributed among the commons to keep them informed about the events in the country or the city. Later on, the first name of a newspaper was borrowed by some Slavonic languages to determine the short news sequence in print. The earlier ancestors of printed papers appeared in times of Julius Caesar. They were hand written sheets of parchment.

As you see a struggle for freedom of speech takes its roots from the ancient times. Previous generations could not imagine what it is like living in a free society, where everyone can speak their mind without the risk of being taken to prison or executed. Actually, nowadays "All forms of speech that are found to be offensive but easily avoidable should go unpunished" (from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy at plato.stanford.edu/entries/freedom-speech/#6). Our children have the right to choose any comparison essay topic however bizarre it may seem and the tutor has no right to lower the mark if he does not approve of the topic without any reasonable ground. A student can submit custom research paper and get a very good mark for it and if the tutor is not plagiarism aware or is quite indifferent. We have the right to express our opinions on any subject. The term "freedom" can be regarded from different perspectives. Some understand freedom as complete abolishing of all the rules and doing what they want no matter how it affects others. With such an approach freedom turns into chaos. It is no more freedom, because freedom starts with the respect to other people's freedom.
