Healing From Spiritual Sources

As a young adolescent I awaited the time my body would bloom into a woman’s. During this time I would examine my body to see how it looked in the mirror. One day I noticed one shoulder was higher than the other. I strained to see my back with a mirror. It was looking rather twisted.

I asked my parents to take a look at it to see if they could find the abnormal curvature I had found. They did. I had severe scoliosis.

For many years I received various treatments, holistic and traditional, none of which did any thing to help. However, they did cause emotional pain and a sense of deep despair due to my atrocious deformity. My feminine self-esteem was deeply compromised.

When I was 17 years old my parents lovingly took me to the hospital for special Surgery in New York City to see if an operation would help. I remember the grueling July day, going from clinic to clinic, examination to examination, x-rays to waiting rooms.

They recommended an operation, but it would mean a year in a caste, unable to walk or even get out of bed. When I got home that day, I threw myself down on my bed sobbing uncontrollably in a river of tears on my pillow. I was getting ready to be a young woman, date and have a social life, but instead I would have to stay in a caste for a year?

No way. I refused to have this “scary” operation, so lived with my twisted body well into young adulthood. I would wear loose clothing and too much makeup to distract anyone from knowing my “ugly” secret.

Time passed. I almost got used to the loneliness of being the “smart” girl with the great sense of humour. However, I never gave up.

In my late twenties, I began again to hope for a straighter spine. I found a former dancer who had developed a physical therapy program for those with major spinal distortions. I joined. About 10 months of breathing and pushing our spines into various contortions I realized this was not working.

I bought a bar you hang upside down on with special “boots.” Every day I would hang there for 30 minutes or so hoping gravity would be my ally and readjust those crooked bones, which supported my frame. Nothing happened.

However, I kept asking, actually began praying, as I hung there, for a solution from spirit. Funny, but until that moment, I had never actually asked in prayer for help. I had asked my parents, I had had crying tantrums, but I never thought of something as simple as asking God for help.

What had changed in my belief system came from attending a series of “sitting circles” given by some of the great mediums in New York at that time. The more I followed this phenomenon the more I learned how powerful and real spirit was. I began to believe it could help and heal anything.

Shortly after I began my prayers, I started having dreams of being a ballerina. I had many of them over and over again. Finally I had a revelation in full consciousness one day. My subconscious mind was delivering a solution to me. Ballerina’s all had magnificently straight spines! Maybe I should give it a try.

I did. There I was, 28 years old stiffly trying to do the simplest of moves for the first time. It seemed impossible to get myself to stand straight, hold my hips down while keeping them perpendicular to the wall. However, it was working. I was slowly training my body into a straighter, more graceful self.

My spine continued to improve. Within one year my breasts looked more even and I was feeling a bit more “normal.” A few years later I was almost completely straightened in comparison to before, with the self-esteem and social life to prove it. I had been led by guidance from spirit to a healing and it had worked!

We all have access to the power of spirit, if we believe and ask. However, your spiritual resources are not going to rally to your support until you firmly and deliberately ask for help. Spirit will not live your life for you. They are there to help if you have changed enough in consciousness to ask for it.

Help from spirit will never fail, if requested with an honest belief in its power.
