Summertime Skin and Body Acne Treatment

Acne was once believed to be the problem of adolescents . We now know that nearly 80% of people ages 11-30 will have at least one acne breakout in their lifetime. Many will have multiple in their lifetime, and the affect of this is both physical as well as psychological.

Roughly 54% percent of the female and 41% of the male population in their adulthood suffer from various forms of acne. For many, the most troubling form is chest acne. With summer right around the corner, more and more people will begin to evaluate their body image. For many body acne is a problem they are anxious to treat.

What is acne?

During puberty hormones called androgens increase causing sebaceous glands to grow bigger and make more sebum. During certain times, the body begins to over produce both oil and cells located within the sebaceous glands. Overproduction leads to clogging. Clogging leads to inflammation and bacteria growth, ultimately resulting in a puss filled follicle we call a pimple.

Bodies become prone to acne for a variety of reasons such as :

  1. Hormonal change
  2. Medications
  3. Genetics
  4. Perspiration trapped within synthetic clothing
  5. Increased exposure to pollutants
  6. Prolonged emotional distress
  7. Friction caused by wearing tight non-breathable garments
  8. Exposure to grease in a work environment
